Pahrump Valley High School to have Veterans Day musical tribute

This years tribute to Veterans will feature American composers from Stephen Foster and Samuel Barber to Alan Silvestri.

Pahrump Valley High School wants to share its patriotism with the public on Thursday, Nov. 9.

The town, and of course all the veterans, will be treated to a free music concert at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym.

The concert will feature the high school’s concert choir, concert band and chamber orchestra.

The high school music director, Michael Wineski, said all the music will be patriotic.

“They will hear themes from the armed forces, concert marches and spirituals,” the director said. “The concert will also feature American composers from Stephen Foster to Samuel Barber to Alan Silvestri. And we will have selected soloists too.”

Wineski said his students started working on the concert at the beginning of the school year.

“The music department is coming together,” Wineski said. “Two of the pieces feature band, orchestra, and choir working together. Those ensembles aren’t always used to performing together.”
