An auction that will aid several organizations in the state will be held at the end of the month at Nevada Treasure RV Park.
The auction’s organizer, Melvin Dummar, said he has been conducting auctions and liquidation sales for the better part of 30 years all over the United States and with him being new to Pahrump, he wanted to bring his passion to his new hometown.
“I moved to Pahrump here just a few months ago from Utah and I thought it would be a good thing to try and bring some of the communities together,” Dummar said. “I know thereâs a lot of tension in Nye County between different communities. I am hoping I can get rid of some of the resentment.”
The Pahrump Senior Center, White Pine County Senior Center in Ely and the Kingston Volunteer Fire Department in Smoky Valley will benefit from the proceeds from the auction.
There will be items of all kinds that were donated, from washers and dryers, to antique jewelry and even some goods from people who handcrafted things specifically for the event.
Small, large, expensive or not, any and all items that anyone wants to donate to the auction are welcome.
Dummar has been traveling all over the state to pick up objects that will be featured in the auction.
One of those donated items is five-foot Indian statue that was donated to the auction by the Shoshone Indian Tribe in Ely.
“It’s one of their parade floats that they used in one of their parades,” Dummar said. “It is a one-of-a-kind. It was built by the chief of the Indian colony here (in Ely).”
In addition to the donated personal items various businesses have donated items, gift cards and free stays at various hotels in different parts of the state.
“We’ve got several motels that have donated night stays, and free oil changes from Big-O Tires and some of those places.”
Door prizes of donated goods will be given away to those in attendance that are registered for the event.
The auction will also serve as a promotional campaign for a faith-based western movie titled, “Heaven With a Gun,” to be filmed in New Mexico in April 2016.
Dummar explained the main winners of the auction will be the area senior citizens, as he said they need to help one another no matter what part of the state they live in.
“I think the seniors really need support, no matter where they’re at,” he said. “Some people say, ‘why should I help this senior center when we need it ourself,’ and I think that’s the wrong attitude to have. They should support everybody.”
The auction will kick off at Nevada Treasure at 4 p.m. on July 30. Nevada Treasure is located at the corner of Leslie Street and Highway 160. Bidders can register for the auction beginning at 10 a.m. and can view what items are up for bid at that time.
