With one of the biggest events that occurs all year taking place this weekend in the third annual Pahrump Balloon Festival, weather will play a major factor in how the three days play out.
Last year high winds put a damper on events like the glow events, but festival-goers need not worry this year, as the area will see spring-like temps this weekend.
The National Weather Service expects high temperatures to range between 72 degrees and 75 degrees, with very little wind expected.
“It will be pretty pleasant through the weekend, with lows in the upper-30s-to-low-40s and highs in the mid-to-upper-70s, with sunny skies and light winds through Sunday,” said Barry Pierce, National Weather Service meteorologist.
Winds with gusts up to 10 mph are expected on Friday, with calmer conditions forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
Just as Balloon Fest concludes, a weak storm system will make its way through the area, weakening the high pressure in place.
“Early next week we’ve got a system coming through, which will bring partly cloudy conditions on Monday and the winds will be picking up out of the northwest. We could see 10 mph to 20 mph winds, with gusts to 30 mph,” Pierce said.
The high on Monday will still hover around 72 degrees, with the winds moving out of the area Tuesday, with mostly sunny conditions expected with a high near 69 degrees.
With several days in the 70s this month, the National Weather Service expects it to be one of the top five warmest Februarys on record.
