With the holidays around the corner, most people are starting to think of gift ideas for their loved ones.
One way to make sure your gift stands out with your friends and family is to give out custom-made items.
Quixoticon, located at 101 S. Frontage Road is a printing business new to the valley who opened its doors in late October. The store offers a wide variety of custom items for consumers to choose from.
Everything from T-shirts, baby bibs, bandanas, tote bags, candles and more, Quixoticon has various items you can put your personal stamp on. If a consumer has something special they want something printed on, they’ll accommodate that as well.
“We’re always trying to find new items to keep things interesting,” said owner Daniel Dummer. “People are also welcome to bring something they own to get printed on as well. They don’t have to buy the product here.”
Prices for Quixoticon’s services range from $5 up to $50, depending on the size of the item that is being printed on.
Dummer went to school at The Arts Institute in Seattle, Washington and has been doing graphic design for over 20 years.
After wanting a change of scenery while living in Oregon, Dummer, his wife and children hopped into an RV and trekked south to Las Vegas. After a few days, they were not so fond of living in a big city like Las Vegas so they made their way over the hump and liked what they saw.
“It’s close enough to big city Vegas, but far enough that you don’t go crazy with big city life,” Dummer said. “We really love it here, so we decided that we wanted to stay.”
The lack of competition in the custom printing field also made it an easy choice for Dummer and his family to anchor down in town.
To connect with their new home, Dummer started to work with local artists on consignment to help promote their works of art as well.
“We’re a family business and we’re trying to join the community and become a part of what makes Pahrump special,” he said. “That’s why we bring in some of the local artists too, because we really want to try and integrate us into the community.”
The initial reaction from Pahrump residents has been positive so far Dummer said. People seem to like the idea that they can get almost anything they want printed on the majority of their favorite items.
“We haven’t really had anybody walk in and walk right back out,” he said. “Everybody seems to look around and I’ve had some pretty good business.”
With the business still in its infancy here in town, Dummer has a few ideas to help draw in new customers.
“For Black Friday we’re offering up to 25 percent off any custom-printed garments,” he said. “We’re also going to have some secret in-store deals going on as well.”
Dummer also said that if customers come in and mention they saw them in the Pahrump Valley Times that they would receive a buy-one-get-one-half-off any custom-printed item.
Quixoticon is open Mondays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.
