Rain and gusty conditions in store for weekend

After enjoying a week of mild, mostly sunny weather, a change in the weather is rolling in for the weekend.

Chances of precipitation and increased winds will end the pleasant weather in the valley for at least the next few days.

Today will be partly cloudy with a high temperature of 68 degrees and light winds, with the overnight low dipping to 39 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday the winds will pick up with sustained winds blowing out of the south at 10 to 20 mph, gusting to around 30 mph on the south end of town. The high temperature will be 66 degrees with a low of 42 degrees.

Sunday will usher in the chance of rain, with the NWS calling for a 60 percent chance of showers to end the weekend.

“A storm system is moving in from the Pacific Northwest that will drop through the California coast, then make its way into Nevada Sunday afternoon,” said Jim Harrison, National Weather Service meteorologist.

Winds will be around 10 to 20 mph Sunday with the high temperature reaching 54 degrees, dropping down to 34 degrees with continued precipitation chances, as a 50 percent chance for rain will be in place for the evening. Winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph, coming out of the northwest, with gusts up to 35 mph.

As the work week begins, the area will dry out, with moderate winds remaining throughout town.

“Monday will be mostly sunny and the rain chances will have moved off to the east,” Harrison said.

The high temperature will be 50 degrees for Monday, with winds blowing out of the northwest at 10 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. The low will drop below freezing Monday, bottoming out at 29 degrees. Tuesday will reach a high temperature of 49 degrees, with northerly winds around 10 mph.
