Wet weather is making a return to town this weekend, with precipitation chances through the end of the weekend.
A pair of storm systems will gradually make their way into the valley, drawing showers and thunderstorms into town throughout the weekend, into early next week.
“We’re pretty much expecting a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day until Monday,” said meteorologist Chris Ougler of the National Weather Service. “Friday has a 70 percent chance of showers, Saturday is about a 50 percent chance and Sunday there’s about a 60 percent chance of showers, especially early on in the day.”
After a weekend that’s expected to be full of precipitation, rain chances diminish to 30 percent on Monday.
Cooler temperatures will also accompany the storms as highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s over the next few days.
Brief, heavy downpours aren’t expected, but rather steady rain lasting throughout the day, Ougler said.
“There’s is a chance for heavy rain, but we’re expecting more along the lines of a lot of showers, more light to moderate rain, but there could be, especially if there’s thunderstorms, some heavy rainfall,” he said.
Thursday morning saw some heavy rainfall in Death Valley causing a flash flood warning to be placed on the area for about two hours.
The weekend full of rain chances is the effect of two weather systems that will go through the area this weekend.
“The first one that is coming through now brought a lot of clouds and weather that we will see today will kind of slowly progress through the area over the next couple of days and there is a reinforcing system coming in behind it and that’s coming in on Sunday,” Ougler said. “That’s part of why we’re having shower chances over such a long duration.”
