Local residents in need of quality medical care performed by teams of doctors and physicians arrives back in Pahrump this week.
Remote Area Medical (RAM) is a nonprofit medical care organization providing free vision, dental, and general medical services to people in communities throughout the U.S. and overseas.
The event is scheduled from Friday, Oct. 6, to Sunday, Oct. 8, at the NyE Communities Coalition campus at 1020 E. Wilson Road.
Desert View Hospital OR Manager Rebekah Murphy said the event is open to anyone who needs the services, as several local medical professionals are volunteering their respective time to perform the services.
“It is a free medical event and we are offering medical, dental, vision and mental health services,” she said. “People will line up and get a ticket and number to go in, where all of those services will be provided. This is the second year RAM has visited our community.”
Desert View ER Manager Casi Lamp said several community health care providers have signed on to provide services.
“We have Healthcare Partners, Desert View Hospital and several community businesses,” Lamp said. “There will be dental and medical professionals from the region. People do not have to provide any medical records at all. There are no questions asked and the people who provide the services are from the Southern Nevada area and as far as Arizona and Utah.”
Lamp also said many of the services are performed onsite.
Additionally, officials also advise that those in need of the services should bring along a list of all prescribed medications.
“This is for the uninsured, underinsured adults and children,” Lamp said. “There are no eligibility requirements at all. People can even receive eyeglasses, dental extractions, dental cleanings and fillings at the event. The clinic doors open at 6 a.m., but last year, people began lining up as early as 3 a.m. This is extremely important to help those who are underinsured or have no coverage at all. We are also including our homeless population. No questions are asked and we will also have showers there.”
Murphy, meanwhile, noted the need for dental professionals for the event.
“We could really use additional dentists,” she said. “They need to bring their credentials, and licensure and other documentation, and we will be more than welcome to have them join us.”
Murphy also said all of the medical professionals involved actually volunteered their time for the event.
“It’s not only us, but others throughout the United States,” she said. “They are based out of Tennessee and they have a webpage providing more information on the event. They started out by providing services throughout the world for those who needed medical attention. They realized that we have people that needed the services just as desperately.”
