The Pahrump Senior Center was ground zero for a special event last Friday.
Officials from Easterseals Nevada arrived from Las Vegas with thousands of much-needed supplies for area seniors.
Senior Center Site Manager Anne Blankenship-Harris said she and all of the seniors were very grateful for the delivery.
“The truck arrived about 9:30 a.m. filled with equipment and supplies for the community,” she said. “LaaRee Drawantz and Eric Pesquira from Easterseals Nevada were assisted by some of our seniors unloading the supplies. We had a steady stream of folks in need and they were all quite grateful for all the product they received.”
Drawantz, director of assisted technology for Easterseals Nevada, said the organization wanted to help Pahrump seniors, make their lives more manageable, as there was no cost associated with the event.
“This is our rural outreach in Nevada, and we chose Pahrump as the first location,” she said. “All of the supplies we brought out were from what we call our ‘Nate Project,’ which is part of the assisted technology collaboration for the state of Nevada. We brought out many donated items such as medical equipment and other devices to assist individuals who truly need them.”
Additionally, Drawantz said there were no qualifications necessary, to receive the supplies.
“They just have to need it,” she said. “We brought out items such as walkers, canes, transfer benches, bedpans and incontinence and personal hygiene products. We also provided testing supplies for those with diabetes. We had more than 5,000 items available on a short-term, long-term, or permanent basis. This is all about helping people to become more independent.”
In order to provide the services, Drawantz said the organization received a grant from the state of Nevada.
