A local agency catering to Pahrump’s senior population has embarked on a new project.
Inspirations Senior Living, 1554 Java Ave., provides services to senior residents needing every level of care. The facility provides amenities for residents who are largely independent to those with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
This month, officials there unveiled plans for their new First Friday project to expand the facility’s reach in the community.
Community Relations Director Krista Willson said First Friday was created to assist community members in finding new resources and opportunities to build new relationships for referrals on the first Friday of each month.
“Nye County has so many programs with NyE Communities Coalition and so forth,” she said. “it’s not necessarily about connecting all of those senior resources with Inspirations, but in general, it serves to connect everybody together so that one hand knows what the other hand is doing and everybody is educated on what services are available for seniors here in the valley.”
Willson also said though the initial meeting attracted just a handful of attendees, future meetings looks to be quite promising.
“We had our first group meeting this month and we just had a couple of attendees but March definitely is shaping up to be quite wonderful,” she said. “I was pleasantly surprised at some of the RSVP’s that we’ve already gotten for March.”
Additionally, Willson said participants can network with other organizations to share information on the various resources they respectively provide.
“For each meeting we will have a sponsor and a speaker,” she said. “They will both have an opportunity to make a presentation to the group and talk specifically about what their service provides. They are the only two that get to speak in front of the full group and after they are done speaking, everyone in the group can speak one-on-one and network.”
Willson also noted a longtime fixture in the community that also caters to seniors will too, benefit from the new program.
“The cost of being the guest speaker is $50 and is donated to the Pahrump Senior Center,” she said. “We would prefer to have the presentations geared more towards the well-being of the senior community and healthcare in general. “If they were a food pantry representative, for instance, that would be great.
Pahrump Senior Center Site Manager Anne Harris applauded the senior living facility for their concern and generosity.
“We truly appreciate what Inspirations Senior Living is doing for the senior population in the community,” she said. “The First Friday event is a wonderful way to present new resources and opportunities for Pahrump’s senior population.”
