With a lot of off-road vehicles in the county, the sheriff’s office has a trio of new editions aimed at educating and enforcing laws about the recreational wheels.
The Nye County Sheriff’s Office received three new Kawasaki Mule off-highway vehicles on Sept. 9, paid for by a grant the department received from the state.
The grant from the State of Nevada awarded the sheriff’s office three OHVs, as well as money for training and OHV law enforcement.
The Sheriff’s office will mainly use the OHVs to conduct specialized enforcement on the residents driving the vehicles in Nye County, as well as search and rescue operations and special events.
An OHV will be sent to the Tonopah substation, the Beatty substation and the third will be stationed in Pahrump.
Sheriff Wehrly hopes to make OHV use in the county safer and ensure that all OHV operators are complying with state laws while utilizing the newly-granted OHVs and specially trained deputies.
