Suddenlink’s acquisition of New Wave nearly complete

Pahrump residents have another way to get their cable and internet needs filled, as a new company has entered the market, replacing an existing one.

Suddenlink took over New Wave Communications in Pahrump and Laughlin on Oct. 1, and have been working to switch the customer base over to their system. New Suddenlink signage was installed last week at the company’s retail store at 1051 S. Bunch Street.

As the seventh largest cable operator in the Unites States, Suddenlink serves around 1.4 million customers in Nevada and seven other states.

Current customers have been sent instructions to create Suddenlink email accounts, as well as online accounts in order for them to have access to billing and other account information.

Former New Wave Internet customers are urged to create new Suddenlink email accounts before May 6. Bills sent out after April 9 have been branded Suddenlink.

In addition to changing the name over, Suddenlink Vice President of Operation, Dan Spoelman said product upgrades will be on the way as well.

“We’re very pleased and excited to be serving this area and look forward to bringing new and enhanced services, including faster Internet speeds and new HD channels, in the near future,” Spoelman said.

Suddenlink acquired Laughlin and Pahrump cable systems from New Wave on Oct. 1. New Suddenlink signage has now been installed on local buildings.

A lot of effort has been put in to ensure a successful switch-over, and that effort has already yielded positive feedback from clients.

“We’ve been doing a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes to move customer accounts to Suddenlink and to upgrade the network and equipment serving our new Nevada customers,” Spoelman said. “Some customers already have told us they’ve seen better picture quality. We’ll be announcing further enhancements as we get farther along.”

Those enhancements could include faster internet speeds, as the company is in the process of upgrading its systems nationwide.

“We have a program we call “Operation GigaSpeed” which was started late last year, where we’ll be enhancing internet speeds across the country,” said Gene Regan, Suddenlink’s Senior Director of Corporate Communications. It’s about a quarter of a million dollar program, that runs from 2014 through 2017, and a good many of our customers by the time that’s finished are going to have the option to choose a one gigabit service.”

Service help from Suddenlink is available for customers by calling calling 775-751-9008 in Pahrump. A new toll-free number – 888-822-5151 — also is available to reach Suddenlink representatives.

The local office for Suddenlink is located at 1051 S. Bunch Street and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
