Two Pahrump Valley High School sophomores were recently recognized for their respective academic efforts.
Shelby Lucas swept the competition as the Pahrump Valley District 46 Lions Club Student Speaker Contest.
For her efforts, Lucas was awarded a $1,250 scholarship.
She also earned a 2016 school year academic achievement award as part of the high school’s Junior ROTC program.
Halie Souza, a 10th-grade GEAR UP student, was chosen to attend the 2017 National Youth Leadership Summit in San Francisco this summer as part of the National Council for Community and Education Partnerships.
Last summer Halie attended a “Finding your Voice” Youth Leadership Summit at University Nevada, Reno and focused on implementing into her community what she learned during the gathering.
