The discovery of the conditions inside a Pahrump home led to the arrest of a local woman on drug and child abuse charges.
A Nye County Sheriff’s Office news release stated a deputy arrived at a Rosa Street residence on Oct. 14, to perform a welfare check on the occupants, which included two young children.
Deplorable conditions
The woman was identified as Lottie Nicole Hughes.
The deputy’s initial observance of the home’s interior could best be described as vile and nauseating.
“Upon entry to the residence, I observed human feces on the floor,” the deputy noted in the Declaration of Arrest report. “Scattered on the floor, there appeared to be raw eggs. There was a large amount of trash and a large broken mirror with a steak knife on the floor as well.”
State of detox
The deputy also noted evidence of illicit drug use inside the home.
“Inside the master bedroom closet was multiple pieces of aluminum foil with burnt residue on them and a glass straw located on the tray next to the foil,” the deputy’s report stated.
“All of the items listed were accessible to the juvenile children in the home who were 2 and 4 years old respectively. Due to the fact that Hughes was lying in the bedroom in a state that she described as ‘detoxing from heroin use,’ she was not able to care for herself or the children that resided in the residence with her.”
Hungry children
Additionally, the deputy said there was no food inside the home for the children to eat.
“The grandparents had previously come to the house and removed the children from that location,” the deputy stated in the report. “They returned the next day to find Hughes still lying in bed and non-responsive for some time. They then contacted the Nye County Sheriff’s Office. Hughes stated that she wanted medical attention at which time, medics were called to the scene.”
Taken into custody
Hughes, according to the deputy, was subsequently transported to Desert View Hospital.
The deputy also traveled to the location to obtain information on the children at the home.
“I was notified by the emergency room doctor that she was being released,” the reported stated. “Once Hughes was released, I placed her into custody and transported her to the Nye County Detention Center where she was booked on numerous charges, including child neglect and endangerment, along with use and possession of drug paraphernalia.”
