Wulfenstein Construction Co., Inc. will repair a couple of miles of roads in Pahrump after Nye County commissioners awarded the company two construction bids on Tuesday.
The county will pay Wulfenstein Construction close to $995,000 for two projects that were outlined in the contract.
Bryan Wulfenstein, project manager, said he hopes to start the work next week.
I havent gotten a notice to proceed, I requested one today, Wulfenstein said.
Per recommendation of the Nye County Department of Public Works and Nye County Finance Department, Nye County commissioners awarded Wulfenstein Construction one bid in the amount of $451,346, according to the documents. The project will be funded from Fund 10205 Roads.
According to the project specs, the company will pave Fox Avenue and the intersections for a total distance of approximately 1,347 lineal feet from the intersection of Gamebird Road to the intersection of Dalton Street with a road width of 38 feet, pre-cast box culverts with pedestrian handrails and a drainage section per the bid documentation.
Gamebird Road must remain open during paving activities, according to the documents. The total surface area to be paved is nominally 5,811 square yards.
Wulfenstein said he expects to complete the project in 30 days.
Nye County commissioners also awarded Wulfenstein Construction the bid in the amount of $543,186 to initiate paving of the portion of Bell Vista Road that stretches east from the California state line for 5.5 miles.
The project consists of resurfacing approximately 26,400 lineal feet of the Bob Ruud Memorial Highway to a width of 24 feet.
The bid document specified one-and-a half-inch superpave after the company levels and evens the existing asphalt. Superpave will buy approximately eight to 10 years before officials have to tackle the problem again.
The project will take 4-5 days to complete, Wulfenstein said.
He also said that the superpave will perform as good or better as the thick sections of asphalt.
I think they are getting a good value for what they are paying, he added.
The project also attracted other bidders. Las Vegas Paving Corp. from Las Vegas and Road and Highway Builders from Reno also submitted bids in the amounts of $650,000 and $1,282,282, respectively.
Weve worked for the county for many years, Wulfenstein said.
The company previously did road work on Homestead Road, Winery Road and Dandelion Street. It also did superpave on East Calvada Boulevard and South Blagg Road.
