Zoning for 92,320-square-foot, 448-unit mini-storage facility approved

A zone change from village residential to neighborhood commercial for a mini-storage facility with 448 units was approved by Pahrump Regional Planning Commissioners on Wednesday.

The five-acre property at 3391 E. Manse Road is just west of Squaw Valley Road and south of the sewer plant for the Mountain Falls subdivision.

Consultant Dave Richards, president of CivilWise Services, said the facility will total 92,320 square feet. He said security lighting would be downward facing and motion activated. Richards said it will be accessed via a card-key system with no employees on site, a plan that concerned RPC member Vincent Clark.

“Who dials 911 if things go wrong?” Clark asked.

“That’s the same issue with a lot of storage facilities in this area. I know several of them who do not have offices on site,” Richards said.

Laura Oslund objected the facility would affect her property values and quality of life on her neighboring five-acre property.

“There are people who live all around this property,” Oslund said. “We were also told there would be RV storage and car storage, which means a whole lot of traffic.”

Dwight Lilly said it was another case of county officials favoring one residential property owner seeking to change to commercial, over another residential property owner.

“If we’re going to be consistent with the master plan you stick with it,” he said.
