Resident thanks Flight for Life for flyover
My name is Lisa Browning. My family would like to give a personal thank you to Flight for Life. I live in Pahrump and my dad had to be rushed to Desert View Hospital, where they found he had to be flown to Vegas. My mother wasn’t able to even go with him to Desert View due to her being sick herself.
When we found he had to be flown, my sister Jackie asked if they can fly over my mom’s house so she can wave goodbye to him and they did just that, shining a spotlight on her as she waved goodbye.
We are so grateful. Unfortunately, my dad didn’t make it but we were able to get her down there before he passed.
We just thought they should be noticed for their kindness. Thank you.

Salvation Army continues to serve community
We at the Salvation Army Pahrump wanted to let you know that although our status in the Pahrump Valley may have changed from a Corps to a Service Extension, we are continuing to provide emergency food for those who need it, along with church worship services on Sundays, and other ministries long associated with the Salvation Army.
The emergency food pantry is open three days per week, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
An assortment of foodstuffs, including vegetables, fruit, canned and boxed goods, and occasionally bread and meats is offered. Individuals must meet posted qualifications to receive these foodstuffs
The Angel Tree program, providing gifts for needy children during the Christmas season, will again be offered this year with signups during the first week of October.
The kettle program, that raises funds for the various ministries offered the Salvation Army, will again be in full force this year, with bell ringers on duty from the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve.
We utilize volunteers in all of our programs, providing screening, training and more to help them be effective in helping others.
Last, but certainly not least, we offer a worship service, led by an ordained chaplain, at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoons. The women’s ministry continues to meet each Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
I am in the office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, however if I am not available on the phone you can leave a message and your call will be returned.
Donations may be dropped at our office too. Donations for the thrift store should be taken directly to the store, however we do have a donation drop box for those desiring to drop at our location.
We are blessed that we have been able serve the people of Pahrump Valley for more than 20 years, and with the Lord’s continued blessings, we will be here for many, many more! Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.

Have communists really invaded our government?
Wayne Brotherton’s August 24th comments claim supporters of President Obama are communists, fascists and socialists. Wayne, I seriously doubt you can define any of these terms. Do you realize that communism and fascism are on the opposite ends of the political spectrum?
Perhaps your confusion with these terms is rooted in the inconsistent behavior of our president. Donald Trump has called neo-nazis (fascists) good people, while carrying on a bro-mance with the world’s most powerful communist (Vladimir Putin).
Wayne, you claim communists have infiltrated our government without providing one example to prove your point. This is the same inept and unsubstantiated method Joe McCarthy used in the 1950’s. McCarthy, who never uncovered even one communist in our government, was censured by the U.S. Senate and died in disgrace. He was an obnoxious bully and liar. The term “McCarthyism” refers to an embarrassing period in our history.
If your position is President Obama was a socialist because he created Obamacare, I can see your point. A program that provided 20 million Americans with health care certainly expands the size of the federal government. However, do you consider Social Security and Medicare socialist as well? Are you advocating the elimination of these federal programs?
Finally, the record of President Obama is clear. He took a collapsing economy and put us on the path to prosperity. During his administration the stock market increased by 10,000 points, unemployment was cut in half and we enjoyed six and a half years of consecutive job growth.
Wayne, if that record sounds like a communist, feel free to call me “comrade.”

Mustang Ranch sets record straight on brothels
As the women that manage and oversee the employees and independent contractors at the Mustang Ranch, we wanted to express our sincere appreciation for all those that have and are dedicating their time to the staunch protection of women. We, like you, are passionate about ensuring women’s rights for equality and safety in the workplace. While we feel some of the efforts and proposed solutions might be misguided and misdirected, we are committed to the same cause and we are willing to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you in the critically important fight against sex trafficking and violence against women.
The Hollywood portrayal of prostitution ranges from a lavish and glamorous lifestyle to an illicit and dangerous activity full of pimps, drugs and the subordination of women. Movies like “Pretty Woman” show women fighting over different parts of the street, giving their cash to a pimp to buy their protection and doing anything to make ends meet for the night. Films like “Moulin Rouge” show the fabulous life of a diamond-covered courtesan while also showing the entrapment that women face when living in a brothel. Despite their popularity, these representations couldn’t be further from the truth and only promote the misconceptions about legal prostitution and well-regulated brothels. In turn, these portrayals glorify and downplay the horrors many women face working illegally on the streets, in escort services and massage parlors or as victims of sex trafficking.
At the Mustang Ranch, we strive to provide the highest level of security and safety for our employees and independent contractors. Our owners and management are kind and respectful to all the women who walk through our door and have shown steadfast commitment to protecting and fighting against sexual misconduct or sex trafficking of any kind. Furthermore, thanks in part to the strict annual background check requirements we have in place, of the more than 3,000 work card applications we’ve received in our 15 years of business, not one of our workers or employees has ever been connected to the mafia, a drug cartel or been flagged as a victim of trafficking. Moreover, we are like mothers and sisters to many of the women that work at Mustang and our foremost priority is their safety and to ensure they are only working here because they choose to.
We fight to protect and, in many cases, save the women who walk through our door. We go face-to-face and toe-to-toe with the pimps and drugs dealers who fight to control women and we help them refocus their lives away from crime, violence and fear. While we manage the daily operations at the Mustang Ranch, we also take on the role of confidant, mentor and adviser to these women by helping them secure photo identification, Social Security cards or immigration work papers. We work to empower the women that work here and, for those that need it, we help them detox off drugs, clear up any pre-existing criminal records and set up their lives for the future.
On behalf of everyone that works at the Mustang Ranch, we, the madams and managers, staunchly stand for the rights of women and to protect those that are oppressed by the dangerous lifestyles of illegal prostitution, escort services, massage parlors and more. We stand with all those willing to fight with us to ensure that these illegal avenues are removed from our society and that our legal and regulated institutions are preserved and we look forward to finding meaningful, effective solutions that further the opportunities for women long into the future.
