A worthy cause invites you to come play some golf

The Tonopah Golf Association announced the 21st Annual William P. Beko Scholarship Golf Tournament. Each year this tournament attracts donors from all over Nye County to play some great rounds of golf at the Death Valley Golf Course at Furnace Creek Ranch.

This year the event is March 12-13.

All proceeds from this annual tournament will be used to support the William P. Beko Memorial Scholarship Fund which awards scholarships to students from central Nevada. To date, the scholarship fund has awarded over $63,000 to deserving local students.

William P. Beko was Fifth Judicial District judge where he was a judge until the early 1990s. In 1952 he graduated from Hastings College of Law of the University of California and that same year was admitted to practice in all Nevada courts. He later was admitted to practice in U. S. District Court, Tax Court and the Supreme Court.

He was our assemblyman in the 1953 Legislature. The following year, Nye County’s district attorney ran for attorney general and Beko ran opposed to become the county’s prosecutor, winning five re-elections through 1974.

For over 20 years, Bob Perchetti has been the driving force behind this tournament and this year Bob’s health may prevent him from attending. Perchetti founded the tournament 20 years ago.

We are hoping that he will be able to come down to send everyone off on Saturday morning. So, please join us in thanking Bob for all his years of service to our most worthy cause.

If you have any questions please contact Vikki Beko at (775) 2770223 or Tom Beko at (775) 7717557.
