Beatty baseball honors seniors

The Beatty Hornets honored their seniors last week on April 29 against Adelson. There were three seniors, Jake Zamora, Carlos Perez and Freddie Constanzo.

Beatty beat the Adelson Lions 10-9. On Friday they traveled to Spring Mountain and beat them twice to end the season, 15-4 and 13-6.

In honor of senior Jake Zamora, Hornets Coach Mark Henderson had this to say, “I would like to say something about Jake Zamora. On his last day of playing any sports for Beatty High School he went out with class and style. In batting he went 8 -9, scored 6 runs with 3 doubles, 7 stolen bases, and had 10 RBI’s. In pitching he pitched 10 innings and won 2 games, allowed only 3 earned runs and struck out 19 (4 in one inning, nasty curve in the dirt).”

Henderson added, “Just to let you know what kind of a kid he is. Coach Verzilli came to me to ask about whom to pitch in the second game and I said, ‘I wonder if Jake would want to possibly start the game at pitcher or finish out his career starting at shortstop.’ Verzilli told me that Jake wanted to pitch. What a great attitude to have. Jake started the 2nd game too.”

“Zamora will missed by all of us at Beatty High School. He always set such a good example of work ethics and leadership for our team.”

“You have graduated from a kid to a man,” Henderson said. “I will miss not having you around next year. Good luck at Great Basin.”
