The Beatty boys basketball team won their first game against Trona 46-43 behind the scoring of Jacob Oseguera (17 points) and Robby Revert (16 points).
The Hornets (1-0 overall) came from behind, stealing the lead in the third quarter.
“The boys made some adjustments during halftime and came out to take the lead in the early third quarter,” Hornets coach Steve Sullivan said. “It was our first game so it took us some time to settle and adjust but the boys worked hard and kept fighting.”
The Beatty defense shut down a three-point shooting guard for Trona and that helped Beatty pull away.
“Trona had a great guard who could drive and shoot deep threes,” the coach said. “Jacob Oseguera picked him up in our man-defense and we were able to limit his scoring options as the game progressed.”
Sullivan said Trona had decent height, which caused Beatty to struggle with rebounds (team total 20). The Hornets also had 20 turnovers as a team, the majority of which were in the second half.
“Thankfully our defense was able to commit a lot of steals and give ourselves offensive opportunities,” Sullivan said. “It was a great first game in determining our strengths and weaknesses right now.”
Tournaments are also great in determining where a team is at because of the amount of games a team plays in a short amount of time.
Beatty heads to Beaver Dam for a tournament this weekend.

Jacob Oseguera – 17 points, one turnover, one assist, one block; Robby Revert – 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, five turnovers; Isaias Femat – seven points, two rebounds, three assists, three turnovers.
