Beatty senior volleyball player in profile, Erin Young

A Beatty senior plays volleyball for the love of the game. Erin Young has been playing volleyball for the past seven years. She started playing the game in middle school and currently plays for the Hornets varsity volleyball team.

“The sport is my favorite sport because of its many challenges,” she said. “I am a pretty good defensive player and I am good at digs.”

She may not be a starter but she still gets into many of Beatty’s games.

“I feel I am right up there with the other players,” Young said. “One of the reasons I like the sport is I enjoy figuring out the other team’s strategy.”

She said her favorite opponent to play is Tonopah.

“They are our biggest rivals,” she said. “I just love the intensity of that game. Last year we beat them. We have a good chance of beating them this year too. I think we just have a few minor mistakes to overcome.”

Young currently lives in Beatty and enjoys life when she is not busy practicing volleyball.

“I love to hang out with friends and go quad riding,” she said.

Hornets coach Steve Sullivan enjoys having her on the team.

“Erin is a great member of the team and though not a starter, she is committed to the team and her role on the team,” the coach said. “She really has great form in her approach, her passing and her serve but she knows there is room to grow and is willing to work for it. Her biggest strength is her serve. She is a lefty so she gets this cross-court angle that’s very tough to handle.”
