The Beatty track team will be going to state. Both boys (129 points) and girls teams (155) took second place at the Class 1A Southern Nevada Regional Meet on May 12-13.
“The Beatty High School track team has yet another successful year,” Hornets coach Ellice Dunsterville said. “Although the girls did not take first at district, we came in a strong second. We just don’t have any girl distance runners to put up against them. Our boys relays were strong competitors against the other schools, and will again be strong at state.”
Boys track team
For the boys, Spring Mountain took first (323) and Tonopah was third (70). To qualify for state one runner had to finish in the top four.
The boys had one regional champion who took first in two events. Freshman Jose Granados took first in the 1,600-meter run (4 minutes, 53.39 seconds) and the 3,200 (11:17.05).
“Jose (Granados) is pushing himself to break records at state,” the coach said.
The following boys will be going to state: Brandon Rebujio was third in the 1,600 (5:19.36) and the 3,200 (12:26.07); Robby Revert was fourth in the shot put (39-feet, 01.50 inches); Jake Ybarra was second in the discus (116-04, personal record), third in the high jump (5-10 personal record), and third in the long jump (19-.75) and Geovonnie Maldonado was fourth in the discus (107-05).
“In field events, our boys did well,” Dunsterville said. “Robby Revert will be going for shot put, Jake Ybarra and Geovonnie Maldonado will be representing the team in discus. Yadir Rodriguez will be competing in high jump and long jump.”
The boys will send all four relay teams to state. The boys took third in the 4×100-meter relay (51.16). The team is composed of Nahum Favela, Jhonpaul Adajar, Michael Olson and Robby Revert. The 4×200 team took third (1:42.28), composed of Favela, Ybarra, Olson and Adajar. The 4×400 team took fourth place (4:15.21), composed of Favela, Edwin Perez, Rodriquez, and Octavio Maldonado. The 4×800 team took fourth (10:09.51) composed of Rebujio, Maldonado, Granados and Christian Donaldson.
Girls track team
The Lady Hornets had two individual regional champions, Alexia Gil in the shot put (29-06) and Adriana Motton in the 100-meter hurdles (20.39).
“Beatty has strong representation with the hurdles,” the coach said. “Adriana Motton took first in the 100 hurdles along with Abby Panlaqui in fourth. Abby also qualified in the 300 hurdles along with newcomer Courtney Willis.”
The following girls will be going to state: Vanessa Gamboa was second in the 100 (14.09) and third in the 200 (30.79); Anel Gamboa took third (3:03.20, personal record) in the 800; Abby Palaqui took third (1:07.30) in the 300 hurdles; Courtney Willis took fourth (1:17.23, personal record) in the 300 hurdles; Arianna Oseguera took second in the shot put (27-1.5), and second in the discus (77-04); Rachael Anderson took fourth (25-00) in the shot put; Alexia Gil was fourth in the discus (73-04), and fourth (25-11) in the triple jump; and Claudia Granados was fourth (12-08, personal record) in the long jump.
The Lady Hornets will send all four relay teams to state.
The 4×100 team took second (57.77), composed of Vanessa Gamboa, Seida Gutierrez, Jasmine Olson and Adriana Motton. The 4×200 team took second (2:11.38), composed of Vanessa Gamboa, Gutierrez, Gil and Claudia Granados. The 4×400 team took second (5:42.18) composed of Claudia Granados, Andrea Leon, Ruthie Myers and Anel Gamboa. The 4×800 team took third (15:16:58) composed of Anel Gamboa, Leon, Myers, and Aysleen Guerra.
“Overall I am pleased with district results and am looking forward to medals for state,” Dunsterville said. “It has been another enjoyable year coaching the Beatty track team, and I look forward to another successful season next year.”
Leo Verzilli, Hornets athletic director, congratulated all the athletes for making the playoffs.
“Beatty baseball went to playoffs, I congratulate all Beatty High School athletes this year for all teams made the playoffs football, volleyball, both girls and boys basketball, boys baseball and all the athletes in track going to state. What a great accomplishment by these young student-athletes.”
