Both boys and girls Trojans cross-country teams did well at the Larry Burgess Invitational on Saturday, an invitational that was attended by 53 teams. It was the biggest meet to date for the Trojans.
The boys took second place out of 13 in the small schools division, and the girls took fourth out of eight teams.
The team that finished ahead of the boys was from Hurricane, Utah.
For the boys, Hurricane finished with 22 points, Pahrump 104, Tech 111, Cheyenne 146 and St. Paul 148.
The boys team was led by the running of junior Bryce Odegard, who took second place overall out of 87 runners (16 minutes, 4.3 seconds).
In addition to Odegard’s performance, the boys team had five finishes under 19 minutes for the three-mile distance.
Junior Cole Goodman was the next best finish for Pahrump with a 20th place (17.55.9).
The Trojans then had four runners finish around 18 minutes.
Freshman Michael Sonerholm, 27th place (18:14.2); sophomore Jacob Cipollini, 28th (18:14.2); senior Stephen Thelaner, 31st place (18.33.6); and freshman Grant Odegard, (18:37.9).
For the girls, Tech was first (39), St. Paul second (50), Desert Pines third (87), and the Trojans finished fourth with 122 points.
The girls best showing was by freshman Diamond Sonerholm, who finished 13th out of 63 runners (21:58.5) on the three-mile course. Junior Grace Plumb finished 16th (22:05.6), freshman Terrena Martin 21st (23:00.2), senior Ashley Floyd 36th (25:53.2) and sophomore Katherine Goodman 46th (27:42.3).
