Girls drop a heartbreaker to Sierra Vista

The Lady Trojans lost a close one on Thursday against Sierra Vista in the final seconds of the game 39-37.

The girls came out and played hard said Trojans Coach Jennifer Hagstrom.

“Yes, it was a complete game,” Hagstrom said. “They played pretty well. Just missed a few too many easy ones to win the game.”

According to Hagstrom, the girls were down 23-21 at the half but they had stayed in the game and scored in the first half. The team didn’t let up at the half and kept pace with the Mountain Lions, both teams scoring 16 points in the second half.

Pahrump (2-16 overall, 0-11 Sunset League) had the ball with one of their leading scorers Shayla Dance. With seven seconds left Dance had the ball with a clear shot that fell short so it was up to Alyssa Murphy, who did a fantastic job of getting in position. With less than two seconds on the clock Murphy took a nice jump shot. It went into the basket and bounced out.

“I guess it just wasn’t to be,” said Hagstrom.

The girls played at Cheyenne (7-9, 5-4) on Monday night and lost 50-38.

The Lady Trojans are at home tonight against Western (4-17, 2-7) at 5 p.m. The last time the two teams met the Trojans lost 42-43. The game was just like the Sierra Vista game.

Trojans boys basketball (0-14, 0-11) got blown out by the Mountain Lions (12-9, 5-5) 88-50. The boys played at Cheyenne (8-11, 5-5) and lost on Monday, 61-30. Tonight they are home against Western (1-20, 1-8) at 6:30. The last time the two met the Trojans barely lost, 45-50.
