The Pahrump Valley Trojans will host Boulder City for the annual homecoming game.
Boulder City comes to Pahrump with a 2-1 record while the Trojans beat Rancho last week for their first win. But don’t let the record of Boulder City mislead you, for they went independent after a horrible 0-8 record last year. The independent status is supposed to pad their team with wins and so far it is working.
And don’t let the Trojans’ record mislead you. The Trojans looked good two out of three games and could easily be 2-1 instead of 1-2.
What the Trojans need to do to win
Pahrump Valley’s head coach said he will stay with the run. And he said one shouldn’t overlook the Boulder City team just because they went independent this year.
“They are a scrappy team,” Clayton said. “We need to use our strength and size against them. They like to run out of the shotgun and their QB likes to run. He runs a lot with speed.”
So the Trojans will be preparing for the Eagles to run a lot.
“Passing is not his strength,” Clayton said.
Interestingly enough, in Boulder City’s game against Needles, the Eagles ran for only 54 yards and had more passing yards than rushing (154 yards).
Boulder City against Clark better illustrates what Clayton was saying. The Eagles quarterback rushed for 73 yards. In that game, Eagles running back Thorston Balmer ran for 150 yards.
The Trojans get back junior running back Nico Velazquez, who has been injured for the past two weeks and sophomore linebacker Anthony Peralta, who was also injured.
“These two players were hard to replace since both played offense and defense,” Clayton said.
Who will win
Trojans have a strong defensive unit coming back and they have size on the line. Trojans by 14.
Las Vegas Sun is split, Case Keefer has Boulder City winning and Ray Brewer has the Trojans.
