Claudia Granados had seven kills to help the Hornets volleyball team top Sandy Valley 25-20, 25-19 and 25-10.
Hornets coach Steve Sullivan was satisfied with the win.
“We got off to a really slow start,” Sullivan said. “It took us awhile to get into any type of rhythm. The offensive frustration carried over into defense. We were flat-footed, late to our positions, or not even in position at all.”
The coach said his girls never gave up despite starting off poorly.
“What was good about it though was how the girls knew they were not playing well and that something was wrong,” he said. “However, instead of simply giving up, they continued to battle. That mentality led to improvement throughout the match.”
Sullivan said in the first set his team had eight kills and that gradually increased as the game went on. In the second set the girls had 10 kills, and in the third they had 12 kills.
“In the third set the offense was in rhythm and they had established a well-balanced attack,” Sullivan said. “Almost every girl on the team had a kill.”
Beatty (13-2 overall, 3-0 Class 1A Southern) hosts Word of Life at 5 p.m. on Friday, and on Oct. 13 the Hornets travel to Pahrump.
