The Lady Muckers won the Class 1A Southern Nevada Regional Meet at Moapa Valley High School in Overton on May 12-13, scoring 240 points.
According to Nevada Preps, the girls have never won a regional championship, but Muckers coach Steve Stringer said that was wrong.
“It’s a great feeling, and we won by 85 points,” the coach said. “It is nice because we are such a small school and we have a softball team too. But we are having great participation numbers now. I think the girls have won it a few times in the past, but records are not kept well.”
Beatty was second with 155 points and Round Mountain was third (63).
To qualify for state one runner had to finish in the top four. The Muckers will send 14 girls to the meet at Foothill High School in Henderson on May 19-20.
Several girl champions
Several girls took the regional championship in their event. The following girls are regional champions: Delaney Friel in the 200-meter run finished in first (29.72 seconds), and first in the 400 (1 minute, 9.15 seconds); Mandy Katzenbach was first in the 1,600 (6:58.83), the 3,200 (15:40.91), and the triple jump (29-03.50 personal best); Elle Snyder took first in the 300-meter hurdles (1:02.44); and Aimee Thompson took first in the discus (80-feet, 9-inches).
The following girls will be going to the state meet:
Katelyn Maurer finished second (30.75) in the 200 and was second in the 400 (1:11.90); Thompson was fourth in the 400 (1:13.86); Emily Girardin was second in the 1,600 (7:29.08); Emily Allen was third in the 1,600 (7:58.11); Annie Fossett was fourth in the 1,600 (8:40.04), and third in the 3,200 (18:49.72); Victoria Fitch was second in the 3,200 (17:50.10); Keli Fossett was fourth in the 3,200 (21:21.26); Snyder took second in the 100 hurdles (20.95); Jessie Vaculin was third (26-10, personal record) in the shot put; Isabel Arias took second in the high jump (4-0); and Snyder was second in the long jump (13-05.75) and third in the triple jump (27-10).
All four girls relay teams will be going to state for the Muckers:
The Tonopah girls are regional champions in the 4×100-meter relay (56.05), which is composed of Maurer, Thompson, Vaculin, and Friel; and the 4×400 team (4:54.79), which is composed of Vaculin, Maurer, Thompson, and Friel. The girls took third in the 4×200 (2:19.67) composed of Fitch, Alayna Palmieri, Daniela Arias and Vaculin. The 4×800 team composed of Isabel Arias, Emily Allen, Fitch and Girardin took second (13:40.36).
Boys send 8 to state meet
The boys team scored 70 points and placed third at the Class 1A Southern Nevada Regional Meet at Moapa Valley High School in Overton on May 12-13. Spring Mountain (323) was first and Beatty was second (129).
To qualify for state one runner had to finish in the top four. The Muckers will send eight boys to the meet at Foothill High School in Henderson on May 19-20.
The following will be going to the state meet: Brandon Jemerigbe in the 100 (12.36) finished in fourth place, and Kade Bunker in the 400 (55.45) finished in fourth place.
Boys individual regional champion
Tyler Kirkland is the regional champion in the high jump (5-feet, 10-inches).
All of the boys relay teams qualified for state. The boys are the regional champions in the 4×100-meter relay (47.25), which is composed of Bunker, Kirkland, Gage Allen and Jemerigbe.
The 4×200 team took second place (1:41.9) and is composed of Chris McCollugh, Derek Eason, Bunker and Jemerigbe.
The 4×400 team took second (3:47.63) and is composed of Bunker, Kirkland, Eason and Jemerigbe.
The 4×800 team took third place (10:08.70) and is composed of Bryan Fossett, Dillan Otteson, McCollugh and Eason.
