Lady Trojans golfers finish league in third

The Trojans womens golf team was at Palm Valley in Summerlin for their last league match of the season on Tuesday. The team was consistent and finished third, a position they have held all season. Courtney Berry was the low score for the team carding a 105. Natalie King and Jayde Woodworth both carded a 115.

Faith Lutheran remained undefeated in match play and it seems like they are on track to repeat as state champions. Lead golfer for Faith, Julia Becker, shot a 74, Sarah Paravia carded an 80 and Bri Yee had an 86. Clark came in second place. Their top golfer Sabrina Ho shot an 83 and Cassandra Ho shot an 84.

Trojans Coach Julie Floyd was again excited about her team and its consistent play.

“They are getting there and they are all fired up about golf and they are loving it now. They’ve just got to keep that going when the season is over. I see a spark in them and I hope they are a group of kids that will play in the off season and pursue it in the winter, spring and summer and play a lot of golf. Some of them have been playing in the monthly junior tournaments. Any extra golf will help them.” Floyd said.

Her top golfers have been in the low hundreds the whole season. Floyd said they just need a bit of work and the 90’s will be there.

“The top four golfers are generally making mistakes in the short game, in course management and making good decisions on the golf course. You need a lot of time on the golf course. When you have different situations and you need to make a shot, it is good to have that experience under your belt. If I can walk around the whole 18 holes with each girl you would see lower scores,” she said. Floyd stressed that next year all her golfers will return for she had no seniors this year.

The regionals will be held at Boulder Creek. It’s a one-day tournament. The tournament rotates every year and last year it was at Mountain Falls.

“They take the top two teams (in each league). I will have three golfers that will get to go (individual category). I added it up and I will wait for official results before I announce who is going from our team,” Floyd said.
