The Lady Trojans stomped another league opponent beating the Clark Chargers on Tuesday 8-1. Sydney Sladek broke the state record for most goals scored in a career at 154. Sladek scored four goals that afternoon and now has 157 goals.
The victory cost the Trojans two good players who had to be taken out of the game with injuries. Trojans Coach Pam Larmouth is worried about the two players because they are both an integral part of the team.
“Lexi Smith came out with a pulled stomach muscle. Everyone was very worried since she is such a big part of our team. Courtney had to come off the field with a bloody nose and mouth from getting hit in the face and Gabby’s (Vasquez) ankle was twisted again and so we were really struggling,” Larmouth said.
Even though Sydney scored four goals, other teammates chipped in another four.
“Paige was outstanding in this game. She never stopped running and put forth so much effort to try to make up for all of the starters that were out. She scored three goals and had one assist. Again she was outstanding! Rosa Ortega scored one goal also and Gabby had an assist the first few minutes of the game,” Larmouth said.
There is a change the schedule. The Trojans were supposed to play the No. 5 team in Southern Nevada Girls Soccer Coaches Poll, Bishop Gorman, but the Bishop team cancelled. Pahrump moved up to the No. 3 spot in the same poll. Larmouth expressed her unhappiness in the situation.
“Bishop is not able to play us on the dates that they sent as open for them. We are not sure what will happen there, I am still trying to get a game going but they are leaning toward waiting until next year. I can’t say I blame them, but we need some more competitive games before State.
“Playing Clark and Western in one week is not good for our speed and aggressiveness. We are trying very hard to keep our pace at a competitive level. We have Faith on Monday and then Adelson on Wednesday,” she said.
Faith Lutheran is ranked No. 6 in the same poll. Last year the Trojans split the Faith games, going 1-1 with them in the regular season and then 1-1 with the post season. The Trojans beat them in the game that counted, which was for the state title. Faith and Pahrump are tied at 4-0.
