A Sacramento, California man has been arrested for suspicion of manslaughter in connection with the death of Robert Douglas Shaffer, a former Truckee High School football coach.
On July 11, the California Highway Patrol issued a news release saying they arrested David John Slaughter of Sacramento.
Slaughter is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter stemming from a traffic collision in Sierra County on April 1, 2017, in which Shaffer was killed.
Slaughter is being held at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility on $125,000 bail.
In 2014, Shaffer was inducted into the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) Hall of Fame after retiring as the Truckee Wolverines’ head coach for 18 years.
Shaffer coached from 1995 to 2013, when he retired, finishing with an overall record of 170-32.
Shaffer won 14 league titles and four straight consecutive state titles. When Pahrump went to Division 1-A in 2012, they were in the same division as Truckee.
