The second annual Nockman Memorial Bowling Tournament will be held on March 12 at 1 p.m. at the Pahrump Nugget Bowling Center.
The tournament is in memory of Enoch “Nocky” Roach, who passed away last year on Feb. 14 at the age of 46. Roach was well known for his bowling skills, compiling an amazing record. He bowled a 300 game 42 times and 800 series 30 times. He also averaged 235 for many years.
This year’s tournament will benefit two charities. Nocky’s parents, Enoch and Shirley Roach, said they want to raise money for the Pahrump Senior Center and Desert Haven animal shelter through the bowling tournament.
Last year’s Nockman tourney had approximately 100 people.
“The first time was nice,” Randy Cardiff, tournament organizer said. “We raised a lot of money to help Nocky’s family with their funeral expenses. So we thought we could raise money this year for charity.”
Cardiff was a good friend of Nocky Roach and his family for five years and met them through bowling and wants people to remember Nocky.
He said Nocky was a nice guy and taught him a lot about bowling and he felt people could help others through Nocky.
“I will keep on having this tournament as long as people come out for it,” Cardiff said. “We have lost a few bowlers here at the Nugget bowling center and I am even open to adding names to this tournament.”
Like last year, tournament sponsors have donated many prizes and will be raffling off three bowling balls, a roller bag for two balls, three single-ball bags and many more prizes. The cost of the tournament is a $12 entry donation. The tournament has a signup sheet at the Pahrump Nugget Bowling Center and walk-ins will be accepted.
