The Pahrump Valley Trojans volleyball team traveled to Clark on Tuesday and beat them 25-15, 25-16 and 25-15. The Trojans played Cheyenne on Thursday, which was Thursday after deadline.The win gives Pahrump possession of fourth place (9-10 overall, 3-2 Sunset League) behind Faith Lutheran in first at 5-0, with Spring Valley and Sierra Lutheran both at 4-1. The team’s next game is at home on Tuesday next week to play Faith Lutheran at 6 p.m.
Trojans Coach Jill Harris was pleased with the way her team served against Clark. “Every body pretty much did their jobs. There was nothing fancy but our serving was really good. We served 96%. we just didn’t give away free points,” she said. According to the coach, Lauren Koenig served tough and earned 10 points off serve along with 13 from Jill Smith and 16 from Bethany Calvert.
Harris said another reason the team won was because the team stepped up on defense. “We kept our hitting errors down saw some good defensive play from Lauren Ashford and Alyssa Murphy,” Harris said.
On offense, Shayla Dance and Andi Bishop lead the team in kills.
The coach said against Cheyenne she had to think tall. She knew the Cheyenne game was an important win. “I am going with my tall lineup which includes Koral Hearn, Andi Bishop, Shayla Dance and Jill Smith across the front row. Our playoff hopes kind of run through Cheyenne as do theirs through us,” Harris said on Thursday before the game.
Pahrump’s Andi Bishop supplied four kills while teammate Jill Smith had four assists and three blocks against Clark.
The Beatty Hornets went up against the Pahranagat Valley Panthers and lost 25-11, 25-17 and 25-19. Hornets Coach Dale Lerbakken believes his team learned a lot from the games. “The trip to Alamo turned out not good for us. We were totally outplayed as we were flat-footed and did not move to the ball. Alamo played excellently, of course, as that was their homecoming.”
The team played a non-league game against Word of Life for practice and won 25-11, 25-17 and 25-19. The Hornets are tied for fourth place with Lund (4-1 overall, 2-1 Division IV Southern Nevada). Pahranagat Valley, Indian Springs and Sandy Valley are all undefeated in conference play.
The team is at Beaver Dam this Friday at 6 p.m. and Lerbakken is confident his team will get the win. “Being Lund beat Beaver Dam 3-2, and we beat Lund 3-2 we should have another victory on Friday. If we play our game, I feel we should win all our games to the end of season. Consistency will determine if we do. We have the talent, and it runs deep, but we have to execute and move our feet better to insure victory,” he said.
The Muckers volleyball team traveled to Sandy Valley last Friday and lost 12-25, 16-25 and 20-25. Tonopah (2-5 overall, 0-2 league) has not won a conference game along with Quest Academy (0-3), Round Mountain (0-3) and Beaver Dam (0-1).
According to Muckers Coach Chuck Fox, the service has been one of the Lady Muckers’ main issues on the court lately. Against Sandy Valley, the Tonopah team had 10 service errors over the three games and only three aces.
He also said his team wasn’t able to control the game at Sandy Valley either. “We just never had the control of the ball, which is what is needed to take the win,” he said.
The Muckers face the Knights this Friday at 5 p.m.
