Odegard propels boys to fourth place showing

Pahrump boys cross-country scored big at the Palo Verde Labor Day Classic by finishing in fourth place and beating Centennial and Bishop Gorman in the ninth and 10th grade division.

Both boys and girls cross-country teams ran the 5,000-meter course with the boys sophomores and freshmen finishing on top of some Division I teams and one other Division I-A team, SECTA. The meet was divided into a freshmen and sophomore division and junior and senior division. The Pahrump boys team’s strength being in the freshmen and sophomores.

The following teams were at the meet and finished in the order they finished in the ninth/ 10th division: Palo Verde, Arbor View, Green Valley, Pahrump, Coronado, Liberty, SECTA, Desert Oasis, Centennial and Bishop Gorman.

The Pahrump girls didn’t score in the freshmen and sophomores but finished 11th in the juniors and seniors division. Two Trojans runners finished in the top 10 in the ninth and 10th grade division. Bryce Odegard finished in first place in this division (17 minutes and 25 seconds) and Layron Sonerholm finished in 7th place (18:25.8). Cole Goodman was the next best runner for PVHS (19:52), finishing 30th.

The best time in the junior/senior division was Stephen Thelaner (20:34), finishing 65th.

For the girls, Fenny Descuatan was the best runner (25:04) finishing 55th overall in the junior/senior division. Alicia Quiroz (25:59) was the next best runner for Pahrump, finishing 72nd.
