Pahrump falls hard to Spring Valley

Division-leading Spring Valley tossed Pahrump aside Tuesday for the win, 57-28.

Trojans coach Jennifer Hagstrom said the Spring Valley (16-3 overall, 5-0 Sunset League) press was tough.

“They pressured us early, which led to some easy buckets, which hurt,” Hagstrom said. “We rushed trying to break the press, turning the ball over, which caused the score to swell out of our favor.”

The girls are trying to adapt after the loss of junior forward Jill Smith. Smith is out for the season with a knee injury.

Hagstrom said Smith accounted for at least 10 points.

“Isabelle Meza took Jill’s spot, and is working hard to learn the nuances of that position,” the coach said.

Lauren Ashford led the team in scoring with 10 points.

The Trojans (1-8, 0-7) are still trying to find that magical combination that will give them the edge to win their first conference game. The girls are at Faith Lutheran on Saturday with action starting at 5 p.m.

Trojans stats: Ashford 10, Calvert 7, Vann 5, Begin 4, Meza 2.
