Football is here, but it was off to a rocky start last week. Whoops. It’s easy to jump on the NFL’s case for canceling the Hall of Fame Game on Sunday. A bit too easy. After all, the Colt’s owner, Jim Irsay, summed it up nicely. “Hey, you’re a $12 billion league. How could you not have a field out there ready to go?”
Thanks to some groundskeepers, that’s how. They used the wrong kind of paint on the football field. The NFL deemed the grass unsafe to play on.
The cancellation of the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio could be a bad omen that could mean that this year’s NFL season will be a dismal failure. I don’t buy that one, for I am a 49er fan and things can’t get any worse for us. It sounds like there were a large amount of angry fans, but as far as this being a bad omen, I think not.
I wasn’t really into watching that game anyway. In fact, I usually forget to watch it.
I am still ready to watch the regular games this year. It happens to be my favorite pastime.
The coming of football is like the geese flying south. It’s a sign that the season is changing from summer to fall.
Pahrump football parents save the day
The NFL’s bad luck almost spread like the Zika virus hitting the Olympics in Brazil. Kids in Pahrump almost had their gridiron dreams dashed. Pahrump Pop Warner had to call it quits at the last minute. According to league president Johnny O’Neal, the Las Vegas Pop Warner, the parent league for Pahrump, only could field three teams and so they called it quits.
And with that I would like to salute the parents of the Pahurump Pop Warner. These guys could have called it quits too, but didn’t. Instead, they had a series of emergency meetings and quickly decided to jump to a non-Pop Warner league in Las Vegas and really only had a day to do all this. Good going! We need more parents like that in this town. Parents who put their kids first and don’t take the easy road. The easy road in this case would have been refunding all the parents their money and calling it quits until next year.
That took guts and because of their quick thinking these kids will be playing football this fall.
