The Lady Hornets lost a heartbreaker on Friday to last year’s state champion Pahranagat Valley, 39-37. The loss ended Beatty’s state hopes.
To get the win the Panthers had to fight off a fourth-quarter rally by the Hornets.
Alamo took control in the second half after a 19-19 tie at the half. The Panthers went on a scoring binge in the third quarter, which gave them a 10-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
But with just six minutes left, Beatty surged when Maggie Cathcart and Arianna Oseguera hit consecutive 3-pointers to make it 35-30.
With just 1:28 remaining the score was 38-34.
Beatty (13-7) had a chance to pull the upset after Alexia Gil connected on a 3-pointer, closing to the gap to 38-37 with 40 seconds remaining.
Denise Gonzalez scored 12 points to lead the Hornets, and Gil added 11 points.
