PVHS boys track takes third at Chaparral; girls take second

Over spring break, the Trojans track team traveled to Chaparral last Tuesday where the boys finished in third out of four teams with 47.97 points and the girls finished in second place out of four teams with 68.59 points. Sunrise Mountain won the meet in both girls (123.4) and boys (95.35).

For the boys, Dylan Montgomery is progressing as a sprinter. He finished in fourth place in the 200-meter run (24 seconds). In the 400, Montgomery did slightly better with a third place finish (55.7). Montgomery also got a first place in the 110 hurdles (16.6).

In middle distance, Timothy Rotherham took third in the 800 (2 minutes and 18 seconds).

Bryce Odegard took first in the 1,600 meter (4:59.5) and his teammate Layron Sonerholm took second (5:03.3). Odegard went on to take first in the 3,200 (10:34.6) and Sonerholm took third (11:18.3).

Odegard and Sonerholm went on to take second in the 800-meter relay. The team is composed of Bryce Odegard, Layron Sonerholm, Aaron Minjares and Cole Goodman.

Nico Cipollini placed fourth in the discus with a 97 feet 3 inches.

Jesse Dillon placed third in the triple jump (34-7).

The Lady Trojans were led by Sprinter Kelbie Middleton who captured two first place finishes in the 100 and the 200 (12.7 and 25.8) and Sydney Dennis who had two first places in the 800 and 1,600 meter.

Dennis ran a 2:39.9 in the 800 and a 6:01.9 in the 1,600. The girls helped themselves by also taking second and third in the 1,600. Fenny Descuatan took second in that race (6:35) and Alicia Quiroz took third (6:45.1).

Descuatan followed up her performance in the 1,600 with a first place finish in the 3,200 (12:41.2) and Quiroz took third in that race (15:25.1).

Meghan McDermott finished third in the 100 hurdles (19.2).

In the shot put, Caeli Havel took second place (29-03.75) and she also had a second in the discus with a (72-04).

In the high jump, Bethany Calvert took fourth place (4-02) and in the long jump took third (14-06).

McDermott took second in the long jump (14-10). She also had a first place in the triple jump (33-09.5).
