The biggest weekend of the year is here and as the town readies itself for the Pahrump Fall Festival, the Pahrump Valley Speedway prepares for the biggest race of the year.
Races will be held on both Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m.
Typically for the Pahrump Fall Festival weekend, speedway owner Chad Broadhead will bring in Robby Woods to do a halftime show or host a demolition derby. Unfortunately there will be no such entertainment for the weekend. However, Broadhead does not believe it will hinder the race weekend. The final races are this weekend for the IMCA and West Coast Super Stock point race. Broadhead believes the races will be entertainment enough.
“This weekend will be a huge race,” he said. “These racers are going to have to come in and race hard both days. As long as they don’t get taken out on Friday, they can race hard Saturday for their last-ditch effort to get points to place in our region. Everyone wants to come out and win this race. I get asked every year if we are having the Harvest Festival races and I always say ‘of course we are.’ We always have huge fan turnout for these races.”
The competition is intense as racers from all over the west coast compete in the IMCA and West Coast Super Stock division.
Currently leading the point race in the IMCA division for the west coast is Pahrump’s own Jason Pike. According to Broadhead, Pike is a competitive and entertaining racer.
“Pike is the guy to beat right now,” Broadhead said, “He is going to have to come out and race tough both days to maintain the lead.”
Right behind Pike battling for second place is Clifton King.
Drivers will have to battle more than just their usual local competition.
“We have people coming from Arizona, California, Utah and I had a guy call me from New Mexico saying he wanted to come compete with the Dwarf cars,” Broadhead said.
The Pahrump Valley Speedway will also be hosting a new event on Sunday, November 10. Broadhead believes this race should bring a lot of drivers and fans out to the speedway.
“It’s going to be called “The Day After the Duel Race.” It’s after the Duel in the Desert Race in Las Vegas. We are hoping to bring in a lot of modified cars for that race,” he said.
In other exciting news, the Pahrump Valley Speedway has made the cut to premier on the TV show “American Daredevils” airing at 9 p.m., Oct. 22 on the History Channel. The show includes the stunt performed earlier this year by Doctor Danger as well as the Redneck Boxing.
