One more game and the Lady Trojans soccer team are on their way to the final four for the state title, but first they will play Faith Lutheran for the regional title on Nov. 9 at Heritage Park at 10 a.m.
The four northern teams will dwindle down to just two by Friday. Prep talk from up North is saying the two teams should be South Tahoe at 13-1-2 and Truckee at 13-2-1.
Pahrump dispatched their northern team with ease last year and ended up playing Faith Lutheran for the state title and all experts are saying this will happen again.
Of course if we relied on experts, there would be no use in playing the game and so we play.
The Lady Trojans played Moapa Valley on Monday night and pummeled them 15-0. Sydney Sladek scored 9 goals in that game.
The Trojans played Cheyenne on Wednesday afternoon and continued their winning ways and not only beat Cheyenne, but shut them out 3-0.
Sladek added to her goal total by scoring two goals and Paige Chaffee had one assist and one goal.
The Trojans scored two in the first half and one in the second.
While the Trojans were beating the Desert Shields, Faith Lutheran had some trouble with Tech, but still won 3-2.
Trojans Coach Pam Larmouth commented on the playoff experience after the Moapa game.
“It was great to be able to play a full game. We used the game to practice some of our plays. We would have pulled back but we need to practice with our newer girls the plays and this was our time to do that. ” she said.
Larmouth said Cheyenne was a bit tougher and it definitely was not practice.
“The Cheyenne team came out fast and hard and surprised us a little bit,” she said. “They were first to the ball and we were struggling. This is a prime example of what happens to a team when they have very little competition. We played and won Arbor View and Shadow Ridge and tied Green Valley but that was early in the season. We had to switch up the players quite a bit in this game to keep the girls sharp. Of course, most of the players came out strong and played like they always do, but there were three or four that were a bit lackluster. It was evident that Cheyenne wanted to win and it put us on the defensive for a while. Lexi had a great game, along with all three of the other defenders, no one could complain about our defense during this game, they were great. Syd, Bird and Court were on their game as always. They play just as hard against easy teams as they do competitive teams. My hat off to Michael Knutson, coach of Cheyenne, he doesn’t have the talent on his team that we do but he was able to get those girls pumped up and they played hard to the last whistle. That is a great coach. We will not be changing our system of play for Faith on Saturday. We want to win regionals, but state is our goal and you can expect to see some different things, maybe even unexpected things at state so that Faith will need to scramble to stay up with us.”
