On Saturday the Pahrump Valley track team was at the Meadows Invitational in Las Vegas competing against 17 schools.
The Pahrump boys finished fifth with 65 points. Green Valley was first with 154 points, second was Desert Oasis with 102, Palo Verde was third with 85, and Durango fourth with 73.5 points.
The boys scored a majority of their points on the hurdle events and long-distance running.
Junior Dylan Montgomery had a good showing on the day, taking first place in the 110-meter hurdles (16.59 seconds), second in the 300-meter hurdles (42.89), fifth in the triple jump (39 feet, 3/4 inches) and ninth in the discus (106-05).
Sophomore distance runner Bryce Odegard also scored some points, finishing fourth in the 3,200-meter run (10:36.69) and fifth place in the 1,600-meter run (4:52.87). Odegard scored again running in the 4×800-meter relay, in which Pahrump won second place (9:03.38). This relay team was made up of Cole Goodman, Sergio Rincon and Layron Sonerholm.
Nico Cipollini captured second place in the pole vault (10-06) and Nik Clark finished in eighth place in the long jump (19-08.5).
The Pahrump Valley girls finished 10th place out of 11 teams. Meghan McDermott was the main point scorer for the Trojans. She took seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (18.20), second in the triple jump (33-.5) and sixth place in the long jump (15-03). Sophomore Annabelle Brophy took fifth in the high jump (4-08).
