On Wednesday it was reported that the Trojans boys track team finished third at the Boulder City Invitational. The officials at the Boulder City Invitational made two errors in recording events at the meet and this gave second place to the wrong team, Virgin Valley, when it should have gone to Pahrump. For the boys, this means they get a trophy.
“We filed an official complaint that Virgin Valley didn’t beat us,” Trojans Athletic Director Ed Kirkwood said. “Virgin Valley accepted the error and will give us the trophy.”
According to Kirkwood, the event that gave the boys sole possession of second place was the 3,200-meter run. In this event the officials put Bryce Odegard as a fifth place finish, when in fact he finished second. This error gives the Trojans seven more points for a score of 88 just four shy of Spring Mountain’s first place (92).
“There was no problem in supporting our claim, for there were numerous witnesses,” Kirkwood said.
The other error was in the discus. The official wrote down the wrong distance for Jeremy Albertson who was given a 143-3. 3, when in fact he threw a 149-0.2. This had no bearing on his place, for he still finished second, but it still was important because Albertson broke the school discus record of 148-10 feet held by Reynaldo Veloz. Albertson had been trying to break it all year long.
