The Trojans boys basketball team lost their league opener on the road to a tough Sierra Vista team 66-28.
Pahrump Valley (2-6 overall, 0-1 Sunset League) let the game get away from them in the first half as the Mountain Lions (2-1,1-0) took a 52-14 score into the locker room.
Trojans coach John Toomer said his team has been struggling lately.
“We are struggling at scoring,” he said. “We are taking good shots, they are just not going in.”
The coach said his defense gave Sierra Vista too many shots.
“We are going to work harder on defense and finishing our shots,” the coach said.
Danny Foss led the team in scoring with 21 points.
The team returns home on Friday to face 2-time recent state champion Clark (3-0) at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Trojans hoopsters ran into tough opposition too against Sierra Vista (2-2, 1-0), losing 40-27. “We lost because because we are not able to put the ball in the basket from the field or the free throw line,” the Trojans girls basketball coach Jennifer Hagstrom said. “Our press got us up 8 in the second quarter and our inability to make shots caused us to lose the game.”
The Trojans led 11-6 after the first quarter but then at halftime the Mountain Lions took the lead 18-15 at the half.
Andi Bishop led the team in scoring with 9 points and Jill Smith had 7 points.
This was also a problem in the loss to Bonanza on Monday night.
The Pahrump Valley (3-3, 0-1) girls will host Clark (1-7) on Friday at 5 p.m.
