Trojans earn victory against state champion Clark, by forfeit

Trojans boys basketball got a rare win over two-time defending league champion Clark High School, but it was due to a forfeit.

Over a month has passed and Pahrump gets forfeit from a game they played on Dec. 11 against Clark.

Clark was forced to forfeit its first five games, which included the Pahrump game. In that game, Clark won 78-32. The forfeit gives Pahrump their only league win.

News did travel from Clark County School District to Pahrump Valley High School said Athletic Director Ed Kirkwood.

“We got a call early this morning about the forfeit and we were told it was due to an ineligible player,” Kirkwood said.

The reason was all news to assistant director of the NIAA, Donnie Nelson, who said the NIAA was not able to give a reason why because Clark County failed to give them a reason.

“We never were informed by the district the reason why,” Nelson said. “I found out by reading the Review-Journal this morning.”

Of course this won’t really hurt Clark High School too much. The five forfeits only affect two league games and gives them a 7-2 league record and a 13-8 overall record. According to the Review-Journal the other league forfeit was against Spring Valley (a 61-19 win).

The forfeits should not affect the playoffs too much, but Clark could lose the number one seed in the playoffs to Faith Lutheran. Faith Lutheran is now number one but still has to play Clark on Feb. 10 and they are now only one game ahead of Clark in the standings.
