Outgunned and outmatched, the Western Warriors went down in flames 61-14 last Friday at home. The Trojans ran all over the Warriors, rushing for 441 yards. All 61 points came in the first half.
The game was a rushing game for Troy, who rushed for 196 yards in just the first quarter. In the second quarter, Pahrump rushed for 175 yards for a total of 371 yards in the first half. Some of the big rushers for the first half were Keenan Harris for 43 yards, Gascoigne for 118, Jeremiah England for 57, Deon Estes for 98 yards, and Aaron Fuentes for 42 yards.
The team put the junior varsity in the entire second half.
The Trojans can’t sit on their laurels for they still have some tough opponents to play. This week Pahrump will face the Chargers and the running of Tyrek Wells in Las Vegas. The Chargers did beat Faith Lutheran two weeks ago but lost to Spring Valley, 37-6 on Thursday night. The game with the Chargers will be on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Las Vegas. The change in schedule is due to Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
The game started off wrong for the Warriors, who probably could have done better if they hadn’t shown up. The Trojans recovered their own kickoff inside the 15-yard line and it seemed like the Warriors had no clue that on a kickoff the ball is live. The kickoff receiver for Western let the ball roll like it was a punt instead of pouncing on the ball.
On the Trojans’ first snap the team went ahead by six points as they ran the ball in.
The Trojans then kicked off again and the warriors took over, but Case Murphy of the Trojans intercepted the ball and ran it down to the 6-yard line of the Warriors. The Trojans then scored on a Tom Gascoigne 6-yard run to make it 14 to nothing. This was just in the first four minutes into the game.
The Warriors went three-and-out and Pahrump had the ball on their 30-yard line. England then took the ball on a 30-yard run to the Warriors’ 40. The Trojans’ Keenan Harris made another first down with a 12-yard run. England then had a 15-yard run to the 5-yard line. Gascoigne took it in again for another touchdown. The Trojans led 21-0 in the first quarter with 6 minutes to play in the quarter. The second quarter for the Trojans was even better.
Pahrump’s kickoff team made a mistake and the Warriors ran the return to the Trojans’ 5-yard line. Western then scored their first points. Western would make only one more touchdown.
Pahrump improves to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
