The Trojans are ready to open the season after completing a scrimmage at Durango High School on Friday night.
“It went well as far as scrimmages go,” Trojans football coach Joe Clayton said. “You don’t want to run everything you do at scrimmages because people are scouting and we exchange film so it makes it tough to get a good feel.”
Clayton is returning to coaching after a one-year hiatus. In 2014, he left with a 4-5 record. Last year the Trojans were 3-6 under Adam Gent. Under Clayton, expect the Trojans to run the ball as he brings back the jet sweep offense.
This scrimmage was pretty much all the real-time hitting the Trojans will get before their home opener on Friday against Eldorado at 7 p.m.
Scrimmages are a dress rehearsal for high school football teams to see how well their team does at game speed.
One of the rules of the scrimmage is that teams are not allowed to keep score.
The Trojans have named their starting quarterback for their first contest, senior Parker Hart.
Hart spent last year as one of the best receivers the Trojans had.
According to the coach, the Trojans are up for their game this week.
“We did some good things (at the scrimmage) and we have some things to work on,” the coach said. “The boys are ready. And they feel good.”
