Trojans seek second league win

The Trojans will face a tough opponent today, Sunrise Mountain (3-3 overall, 1-1 Sunset League) in a battle for second place.

At the moment, Sunrise Mountain, Pahrump Valley and Mojave are all 1-1 in the league. Cheyenne is too, but the Trojans just beat them last week.

Trojans coach Joe Clayton said his team is ready for Sunrise Mountain. Clayton said that Sunrise is a better passing team than Cheyenne.

“We have to worry about the zone read play action and of course with Sunrise Mountain we are more worried about their passing game and their quick athletes,” Clayton said. “We hope to continue with good defense.”

Clayton hopes to do what he did against Cheyenne, and that is dominate the offensive and defensive line.

“Honestly, I think we dominated on the line against Desert Pines,” he said. “We just didn’t score against them. I think our offensive line is better than the Miners’ line.”

He said his line should do the same against the Miners and they should be at full strength.

Clayton was only a little worried about the quickness of Sunrise Mountain.

“They have a young team and I think our defense can handle them,” the coach said. “We put a lot of new boys in on our defense and they have all stepped up.”

Clayton said after the Cheyenne game that he felt his defense “has grown up.”

As far as his offense, he expects more of the same. This unit garnered over 300 yards against the Desert Shields last week.

Offensive threats for the Trojans

The big playmakers in the running attack for the Trojans have been junior running back DeAngelo Brown, junior running back Nico Velazquez, senior running back David Roundy, senior quarterback Dylan Coffman and junior running back Casey Flennory. Tight end Cory Bergan is the main receiver threat for the Trojans.

On defense, the sack leader is senior defensive lineman Jeremy Albertson, safety Cory Bergan, who leads in interceptions, and DeAngelo Brown, who leads in tackles.
