The Trojans will try to bounce back after two straight losses to win their first league game of the season.
Pahrump hosts Sunrise Mountain, which is also the homecoming game, at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Keys to the win for Pahrump (3-3 overall, 0-2 Class 3A Sunset) is controlling the ball this week and holding onto it. They moved the ball well against Cheyenne in the first half last Friday. In the second half, though, Pahrump had problems holding onto the ball and had penalties that killed drives.
Trojans quarterback Parker Hart said his offense made too many mistakes in last week’s game against Cheyenne.
For the Trojans to be successful, they need to convert those third downs like they did on the first drive against Cheyenne, where the offense took the ball the length of the field and put the ball in the end zone on a one-yard run by Parker Hart. Against Cheyenne, the Trojans scored 10 points in the first half but were blanked in the second.
The Desert Shields had 407 yards against the Trojans that game.
The opponent:
The Miners (3-3, 2-0) are headed by Chris Sawyers, who is in his third season as head coach.
He has 22 returning lettermen, nine offense, eight defense. Sunrise Mountain likes to go with the spread and they like to run.
In the last game against Western, the Miners threw 14 times and ran 19, completing nine passes for 168 yards and rushing for 254 yards.
They have a balanced offense that could hurt a team either way.
Their defense has some quick and experienced defensive backs that can hurt a team on pass coverage because of their speed and quickness.
