The Trojans Girls golf team won their first Sunset match played at the Las Vegas Golf Club on Monday.
Krista Toomer shot 23-0ver 95 to help the Trojans with the win. Pahrump carded a 420 and Mojave, the only other team on the Sunset side, shot a 556.
There were individuals present from Sunset schools. Western’s Carolyn Lemon was one of them and she won the overall match, carding a 10-over 82.
The Trojans Makalea Petrie carded a 24-over 96, Desirae Hembree a 113, and Jordan Egan a 116.
Pahrump girls golf coach Bob Hopkins was satisfied with his girls’ play.
“The course was rough due to seeding and the greens were faster than we are used to,” he said. “We still had three girls make the cut. If you don’t make the cut, then they double your score. We have a good practice match today, which is a Sunrise match and we play tomorrow at Mountain Falls.”
The coach added that he expects his girls to improve on their short game.
“The short game (chipping and putting) is what makes you better,” he said. “As a team, we waste too many strokes on greens. If we can cut those strokes we will improve.”
The Trojans were home on Thursday, which was past deadline. Their next match is on Tuesday for a Sunset League match at Aliante in Las Vegas.
