The Lady Trojans breezed by Desert Pines on the hard hitting of Alexis Trieb and Koral Hearn. Pahrump (10-10 overall, 3-0 Sunset League) won at home on Tuesday night, 25-2, 25-2 and 25-14.
Trieb had 12 kills and Hearn had 10. In addition to her kills, Hearn had at least four unofficial aces and Trieb had at least one.
“Both hitters, Koral and Alexis, are hitting really well,” Trojans coach Jill Harris said. “Koral is picking up the back row, she has never played that before.”
Hearn said she has learned a lot about hitting since the summer.
“I think my hitting has improved a bunch,” she said. “Going to Dixie (volleyball camp in summer) helps a lot. I got a little frustrated in the third set. The sets were a little off and kept hitting my arm. I had to calm myself down because I knew that my attitude would affect my game.”
Desert Pines (0-13, 0-3) currently has the worst record in volleyball in the Sunset League and the Sunrise League and the scores in the first two sets reflected this. The Jaguars had a hard time getting the ball over the net and even setting up a play.
Regardless, Trojans coach Jill Harris was happy with the hitting and the win.
“Even though the team was not as good as we were, we didn’t play down to their level,” the coach said. “We did everything right. We served well. Most people had pretty good passing.”
Harris referenced the third set. The Trojans basically started to make minor mistakes in that set and Harris called a timeout to calm the team down.
“I told them in the timeout that we’ve got to quit making mistakes,” the coach said. “Our goal is to bring our unforced errors down and we started making too many errors in that third set.”
The Trojans played at Cheyenne (11-13, 2-1) on Thursday, which was past deadline. Cheyenne lost to Mojave, who the Trojans beat, three sets to one.
The Trojans host Western (1-5, 1-2) on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
