Belle Gonzalez was named the homecoming queen and Kordell Stark the homecoming king during a coronation Monday evening at Tonopah High School where homecoming festivities are underway this week.
Gonzalez and Stark are both seniors at the school and town residents. Students at the school voted on the honors.
The homecoming queen finalists were Jessie Vaculin and Ana Rivera. The homecoming king finalists were Freddy Lopez and Vinny Bagarose.
Underclass princesses also were honored.
They are freshman princess Amanda Katzenbach, who was escorted by Jesus Martinez; sophomore princess Beleigh Pope, escorted by Alex Katzenbach; and junior princess Kayla Campos, escorted by Noah Taylor.
Announcing the honors was math teacher Joe Wood, who serves as student council adviser. James Fossett, director of rural schools for the Nye County School District, crowned the honorees.
A homecoming parade is planned for noon Sept. 23, starting at the Tesla electric car-charging station in Tonopah.
Tonopah High School’s homecoming football game is later that evening at home against Round Mountain at 7 p.m. The homecoming dance is Saturday evening.
