Community yard sale set for Pahrump area

The Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Pahrump Valley Times are joining forces this month for a first-of-its-kind community yard sale.

The event runs May 26-29, which is during Memorial Day weekend.

Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator Vicky Hilling said anyone in the community, be it a resident or business can participate for $10 in what is being called the “Inaugural Pahrump Valley Wide Yard Sale.”

“We are asking people to come in and get an application if they’re interested in participating in the yard sale on Memorial Day weekend, which includes Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday,” she said.

“You just fill out the application and submit it back to us,” Hilling said. “We have teamed up with the Pahrump Valley Times to publish where your particular yard sale will take place. That way people can just pick up one of the two newspapers, where it will be printed and they can make a map out to drive through town and hit all of the yard sales.”

Hilling also said individuals can choose to participate all four days or just one or two days.

“That is entirely up to you,” she said. “If you are ready to do some spring cleaning, this is the event for you, plus you can earn some cash while you’re doing it. So far, we have about 15 people who have signed on. I expect even more between now and Friday, which is the deadline. Only your address and the days open will be printed. Names, phone numbers and emails will be collected on the applications but will not be displayed on promotional materials.”

Hilling also urged residents to pick up the latest Chamber of Commerce magazine to help map out a route for the community-wide yard sale.

She noted that chamber officials want to make the event an annual one for area residents.

“We just wanted to put together something for the community and get as many people as possible to participate,” she said. “This is something we’d like to do on an annual basis. It’s nice to have a listing for everyone who is having a yard sale. We also have the new fold-out maps in the Chamber of Commerce magazine, so anybody can stop by and grab the brand new 2017 Chamber of Commerce magazine. It will allow you to map your strategic plan for the long holiday weekend.”

Application are posted on the chamber’s website at pahrumpchamber.com or stop by the Nevada State Bank complex at 1301 South Highway 160, on the second floor, by 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
